This is probably not the most popular subject when it comes to God, nevertheless it is real and it is pressing. The holy wrath of God is a serious matter. Many people like to sit and think about God’s grace, mercy, patience, understanding, kindness, goodness, and unending love. God is a God of all these things, but He is also a God of jealousy, anger, hatred, and wrath. These latter things are just as present as the former. I have heard many say God is not angry anymore. That is simply not true. God hates evil and sin every day, because it exists every day. God does not look on the world with a smile on His face when He sees sin. The Scriptures point out that He is angry every day, especially with His enemies. Many people see a difference between the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament. The book of Malachi says very clearly, “I, the Lord, do not change.” I have spent the past few weekends studying Psalm 7, which has very clear language illustrating the wrath of God. Psalm 7:11-13 says:

“God is a rightous judge, and a God who has indignation every day. If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready. He has also prepared for Himself deadly weapons; He makes His arrows fiery shafts.”

God is angry every day, and He will be angry for eternity. His holy wrath and hatred of evil will last for eternity, because His enemies, if they do not repent, will be the recipients of it in hell. This is what the one who denies the existence of God, or the work of Jesus Christ, has to worry about. To the one who has not put His faith in the Son of God, God wants you to know that His sword is sharpened, and His bow is bent back and ready to fire upon you. This wrath is fiery wrath, like the wrath of no other. He is The Divine Warrior. Back in the book of Joshua, He is seen. Joshua comes upon a “man” with His sword drawn in Joshua 5:13. Joshua asked this “man,” “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” This man’s response is one to let Joshua know that He is no typical soldier. His response is, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.” As soon as this “man” said this, Joshua realized who he was talking to. This was no mere man, this Captain of the host of the Lord was the Lord himself. Joshua falls to his face in verse 14 and then this Captain of the host of the Lord tells him to remove his sandals, because he is standing on holy ground. This event is right before the conquest of Jericho, led by Joshua…or maybe this Captain was truly leading the charge. This Captain is always leading the charge, and He always has His sword drawn against His enemies, and when He so desires, He will indeed crush His enemies. Here is a fun fact. This Captain of the host of the Lord mentioned in Joshua is believed to be the Lord Jesus Christ, before His birth in the New Testament.

He is The Divine Warrior, always with His sword drawn, always ready to fire, always with His anger against His enemies…..but….also always ready to forgive those who repent. This is always included, for those who are still alive. Every single man, woman, boy, and girl are sinful and deserve the unending wrath of God because of their sin. God extends His hand in grace and love for those who would come desiring to repent of their sin and receive forgiveness. It is not only a case of believing. The book of James reminds us that even the demons believe in God, and shudder, or tremble. They know who He is and are deathly afraid of Him. It is also not just a knowledge of your sin or even simply the conviction of your sin. Their are many who know they need God and know they need forgiveness and are convicted of sin. But, they still do not repent and they still do not submit to the Word of God. You MUST repent with your belief. You MUST have a true knowledge of who Christ is and what He did. You MUST submit to His commands, because without that, you will not and cannot love Him. Christians are not those who simply say, “I believe in God,” or even, “I believe in Jesus Christ.” Belief without repentance is nothing. Some might even tell you that if you have “positively confessed” the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved. If you do not believe in your heart what the Bible says about Jesus, a million “positive confessions” mean zero salvation. I once listened to the podcast of a Word Faith pastor who said even if you do not believe in your heart, but if you believe what you say, you will be saved. This is completely not true, your words do not have that kind of power. Try this approach, and the Lord will tell you on judgment day, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”(Matthew 7). If you think you belong to the Lord, but you continue to live a life without conviction of sin and without repentance and without submitting to the Bible, you are not a Christian, and His sword is still drawn, His bow is still bent back, and His wrath still rests upon your shoulders. In this situation, you should be afraid, because His wrath is real.

But, please remember, He stands ready to put down weapons and open His arms to those who repent. He offers forgiveness of sin and a new spirit, able to obey the Bible and able to repent. If you feel Him calling, you must come to Him, willing to die to yourself and give your entire life to Christ. You must recognize your own filth and sin, and see the righteousness of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to put away sin for His people and rose from the grave to conquer death. Psalm 7 ends with this: “I will give thanks to the Lord according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.” Is this a true statement for you? If it is, His wrath is not for you to worry about. If it is not a true statement for you, and if you do not repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, His wrath is the only thing you have to look forward to after you die.

Dear brothers and sisters I am asking for your prayers.

At the end of 2007 I was wrongfully terminated from a job that I had been at for over nine years. I raised an issue about being bullied and harassed by my boss. Instead of being heard and having the matter addressed I lost my job. Ironically the lady who terminated me was fired just a little more than a year after she terminated me.

We have gone to court and there is no doubt that the matter will be settled in my favour, but my parents have invested their life’s saving helping me fight this battle.

However these past years have been very difficult. In April of 2008, my mom was diagnosed with liver cancer. She fought hard, but passed away on March 1st.

To add to these trying times, I have been trying to rebuild my career after being terminated in November of 2007. In 2008 I was able to find contract work to provide for my family, but that contract ended as the recession started. In 2009 I found another contract, but it ended in December.

For the past four months we have had very very little income coming in to support my family. I was OK with that as it allowed me to help my dad look after my mom during her time of suffering. Now that my mom has passed away, it is time for my dad to start looking after his health, and for me to get back in to the job market.

I am asking for you to pray that my dad may be strong following the loss of his wife of 48 years. They were very close losing her will be painful. At age 79 he is fairly healthy, but these past two years have been very difficult. He is a devoted father who has been helping me, and a devoted husband. I am praying that he will remain happy and enjoy many more years of life.

For me, I am asking that our Lord may send his blessings and that I may find either a contract position or job that will allow me to get back to work. At this point we have been living on nothing but the grace of God. We are behind on many of bills and more bills are coming every day. I need to get back to work as quickly as possible.

Finally, I am asking that you pray for my family that the court case in regards to my wrongful dismissal may be resolved quickly, and that justice will prevail. As I mentioned, my parents have invested their life’s savings, and we need the legal matter to concluded. When everything is over, I need to repay my dad so he can get on with his life and pay back the money he borrowed for my mom’s funeral.

I know that we all have our times of testing, but I also trust in the mercy of our Lord and Saviour.

YBIC

Robert

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.”
~ Joel 2:25

I’ve been reading a lot lately about the spiritual disciplines and I came across some things while on the topic of meditation that didn’t quite sit right with me. For one, it seems that some experts in the subject are on the verge of suggesting something along the lines of Yoga or Zen. These eastern practices are religious in nature, but not Christian. I’m uncomfortable with someone who is helping Christians to deepen their faith suggesting that we try meditation techniques that originated in other religions. These experts talk about “emptying the mind”, which I don’t believe is the purpose behind contemplative prayer and meditation from a Christian standpoint. Our purpose is to commune in an intimate way with God, to hear from Him.

So what are your thoughts? Am I taking things a bit too seriously or is this a dangerous road for Christians to walk down?
